Eco- Crabbing 2022-ongoing

Initially a self-funded project, then with sponsorship from Brightlingsea Hard, Jane created workshops for locals and visitors creating bio-degradable crabbing lines.

A great believer in the power of gentle interventions, the project was to stop people buying polluting plastic lines for £1 and get people making the same thing for free. Changing the way people think about what they use, many of the participants did not realise how harmful these lines and weights can be.

Jane is hoping to grow this project this year, moving forward with a ‘beach teach’ programme for visitors along with signage and a ‘crabbing library’ for visitors to use. Eventually ending with the outlawing of the sale of Nylon lines and tiny buckets that pollute and create a stressful and cruel environment for the crabs that have been caught.
